Tuesday

General:
  1. Part A ELA exam is next THURSDAY, MAY 12, 2016. Mock exam will take place this Friday morning for the Grade 6s of Room 14 and 15. Part A involves: Writing an article and a story.
  2. Reading Give-it-A-Shot over on May 6th.
  3. Hats ON for mental health tomorrow.
  4. Popcorn Sales upcoming: Mavericks will be selling popcorn again to finish their fund raising commitment to Free The Children starting Monday May 9 at lunch recess outside (weather-permitting)  We will sell every Monday until we sell out.  Popcorn is $2.00 a bag.
Health
  1. Human Sexuality forms were distributed today. Please read it carefully. We encourage all students to participate in order to better understand the changes they will go through. Due: May 9th, 2016.
  2. Today, we had a lesson about Mental Health/Illness.  We discussed how it is chemical imbalance in the brain and it is not something that you can just "snap out of".  We also talked about the stigmas that comes along with Mental Health issues.  It is important to talk to trust adults if students feel unhappy, hopeless and worthless on a regular basis.  Tomorrow, we will wear hats to show awareness for Mental Health.
Science:
  1. Parachute Lab: Due Thursday. Have your parachute built for Monday's DEAR period. 
  2. Students should be done the following for their "How High Can You Fly?" project:
    • Planning Page (initialed by a teacher)
    • Modification for wing shape
    • Building Prototype
    • Pre-tradeshow News Article (Individual Rough Copy) - 
    • Pre-tradeshow News Article (Good copy) - Any who did not finish will have to complete their good copies at home on the computer, by hand, or at school during Workshop Wednesday (homework club).

           *Please note that these are soft deadlines.  If students choose not to follow these deadlines,   they will find it difficult to complete the project on time due to its many components.  Students are encouraged to treat these are hard deadlines.

Language Arts:
  1. We are working on creating infomercials for the Science project. The infomercials use many of the same concepts and ideas (of persuasiveness) covered during the propaganda ad assignment.
