Heart-Thumping Thursday

General:
  1. For parents who could not attend Student-Involved Conferences, a follow-up form was sent home LAST Tuesday.  Please fill it out and return it ASAP.  If your child does not have it, please send a note to school. In each class, there are still 3-4 students who have yet to return these follow-up conference forms.
  2. Mark Your Calendars: The evening of April 21st is the Math Showcase. Families will have one of two spots to sign up for: 6 - 7 p.m. or 7 - 8 p.m.
  3. Fun Lunch orders are due: April 15th and the lunch itself will be delivered April 28th.
  4. Reading: Give it a Shot sheets were given out today. The end date for collecting minutes is April 29th. Every 100 minutes read, means that students can collect a card. Students who read 2400 minutes will be able to participate in a Students vs. Teachers floor hockey game at the end of the competition.
  5. Brainfuse: E-library Calgary Public Library - free academic tutoring aligned with Alberta Program of Study. This is accessed through a student's library card. 
Language Arts
  1. Spelling Test: TOMORROW. The words are:
  • Responsible, incredible, divisible, impossible, and terrible
  • Acceptable, achievable, considerable, correctable, and delectable
Social:
  1. Social Studies test announced for: Monday, April 18th. Topics and format during Social Studies today. Topic: The Iroquois Confederacy
Science
  1. Last Tuesday, students were introduced to a cross-curricular project called "How High Can You Fly".  An outline was provided to each student.  The project consists of: (1) A Blueprint of your Design (2) A Flying Device (3) Infomercial and (4) A News Article.  
  2. Students received a sheet today that will help them with their project: "Parts of an Airplane" - they are STRONGLY encouraged to complete this sheet (parts of an airplane and the parts' functions) by tomorrow so that class time can be devoted entirely to the mini-lesson and project completion.
Math:
  1. Cartesian Plane activity due TOMORROW.
