Momento Monday: LA Edition

In class, we worked on another Langston Hughes poem titled, "A Dream Deferred".

The poem is as follows:

What happens to a dream deferred?
Does
it d
ry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or
fester like a sore
And
then run?
Does
it stink like rotten meat?
Or
crust and sugar over
like
a syrupy sweet?
Maybe
it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
The bolded parts are the line starters that all students poems will have.
By now they should have brainstormed some positive and negatives about what happens when dreams are pursued and not pursued, respectively and created a rough draft from there.
  • The rough draft is due tomorrow.
  • Students received roughly 45 minutes to brainstorm and write out a rough copy in class.
  • The rough copy will be typed up on Wednesday.
