Maniac MaGee Monday

General:

1. Fill out and return "Meet the Teacher" form.
2. Open house: Wednesday afternoon/evening (two sessions) and Friday morning (one session). There will be time to have informal conversations with the teacher before and after each session. Please set aside time to see your child's desk and to look at some of the things they've been learning over the past four weeks.

Language Arts

1. Maniac MaGee quiz is tomorrow. We reviewed the key story details today (e.g. characters, setting, conflict, and the first few rising action events). The quiz is multiple choice and out of ten.

Math:

1. Place values quiz on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24th, 2015.

• Please review place values with your child.  We will continue to practice in class the next few school days.  They need to know up to one million if they are in Grade 5 and beyond one million if they are in Grade 6.  Some vocabulary words they may be using include:

1. period
2. value
3. worth
4. standard form
5. expanded form
6. written form

• How to study? Write out a large number in standard form (e.g. 6 843 227), write it out in expanded form and word form. THEN, identify the value of each digit in the number. (e.g. The value of "6" in 6 843 227 is "6 000 000").
